SnoWatch: Willow Creek Watershed

Watershed:format for printing

The Willow Creek watershed drains about 134 square miles above Lake Granby, located northeast of Granby. In an average year, the Willow Creek watershed produces about 56,000 acre-feet of water. Almost 85% of the production (47,500 acre-feet) occurs during the peak snowmelt months of April through July.

The Willow Creek watershed provides water to Willow Creek Reservoir, which in turn pumps water over Lake Granby for subsequent delivery to the East Slope by means of the Alva B. Adams Tunnel

Our SnoWatch system displays year-to-date snow accumulation for three SNOTELs in and near the Willow Creek watershed. Stillwater Creek is a low-elevation site located just outside the eastern edge of the watershed. Willow Creek Pass is a high-elevation site located on the northern edge of the watershed. A relatively new SNOTEL, Never Summer, is a high-elevation site located north of the watershed in the North Platte drainage basin. It is in its seventh year of operation. The current year of snow accumulation for Never Summer SNOTEL is shown, but we have insufficient data to compute a median curve.
