SnoWatch: Upper Colorado River Watershed

Watershed:format for printing

The Upper Colorado River watershed drains about 312 square miles above Lake Granby, located northeast of Granby. In an average year, the Upper Colorado River watershed produces about 268,000 acre-feet of water. Over 80% of the production (218,000 acre-feet) occurs during the peak snowmelt months of April through July.

The Upper Colorado River watershed provides water to Grand Lake, Shadow Mountain Reservoir, and Lake Granby. Water collected in Lake Granby is delivered to the East Slope by means of the Alva B. Adams Tunnel.

Our SnoWatch system displays year-to-date snow accumulation for three SNOTELs in and near the Upper Colorado River watershed. Lake Irene is a high-elevation site located in the northern part of the watershed. Phantom Valley SNOTEL, also in the northern part of the watershed, is a middle-elevation site. Stillwater Creek is a low-elevation site in the west-central portion of the watershed.
