SnoWatch: Fraser River Watershed

Watershed:format for printing

The Fraser River watershed drains about 302 square miles above its confluence with the Colorado River. In an average year, the Fraser River watershed produces about 144,000 acre-feet of water. Nearly 80% of the production (112,000 acre-feet) occurs during the peak snowmelt months of April through July.

The Fraser River watershed provides water to the cities of Winter Park and Fraser. It also supplies water to Denver Water’s Moffat Collection System and Northern Water’s Windy Gap Project.

Our SnoWatch system displays year-to-date snow accumulation for three SNOTELs in and near the Fraser River watershed. Berthoud Summit is a high-elevation site located on the southern edge of the watershed. Jones Pass, another high-elevation site, is located in the Williams Fork watershed, but is closely correlated to the Fraser River watershed. The Arrow SNOTEL is a middle-elevation site located in the central part of the watershed.

Please note: The Arrow SNOTEL site has been compromised by the pine beetle outbreak. The snow water equivalent data for this site may not be representative of snow accumulation conditions in the watershed.
