SnoWatch: Cache la Poudre River Watershed

Watershed:format for printing

The Cache la Poudre River watershed drains about 1,056 square miles above the canyon mouth west of Fort Collins. In an average year, the Cache la Poudre River watershed produces about 277,000 acre-feet of water. Over 80% of the production (223,000 acre-feet) occurs during the peak snowmelt months of April through July.

The Cache la Poudre River watershed provides water to the cities of Fort Collins, Windsor and Greeley. It also supplies water to numerous ditch and reservoir companies in eastern Larimer and western Weld counties.

Our SnoWatch system displays year-to-date snow accumulation for three SNOTELs in the Cache la Poudre River watershed. Deadman Hill SNOTEL is a high-elevation site located in the North Fork drainage area of the watershed. Joe Wright is another high-elevation site located in the southwest corner of the watershed. A new SNOTEL, Hourglass Lake, is a middle-elevation site located in the Little South drainage area. The current year accumulation for Hourglass Lake SNOTEL is shown, but we have insufficient data to compute a median curve.
